Difference in working for a firm without a balance sheet

Hi,

I recently got an offer on a FICC desk from a broker-dealer that doesn't use balance sheet. They simply connect buyers and sellers, charge a higher price, and pocket the spread. How does the work and learning experience differ versus the normal FICC model of actually buying and selling the securities?

Thanks!
