Opinion on Macro Equity Analyst
Hi folks,
I am interviewing for a macro equity research position at one of the popular market making trading firms. My work would basically be to analyze market macro events related to Indian equity markets. So, I would be figuring out the macro drivers (demand-supply dynamics) for stocks in specific sectors such as auto, metals, pharma, etc. I also would have to be cognizant of the various events that happen for stocks in those sectors, such as dividend announcement, share split, etc. I would also be looking at macro announcements such as, fed rate announcements, unemployment data releases, Manufacturing index data. etc. After gathering all the relevant information, I would have to make summaries/research memos to support traders in making decisions on how best to trade and make money in different situations. The job description says that I would also be part of building these trading strategies by collaborating with traders.
I want to understand how the career trajectory for this sort of job would look like. I also want to enter trading at the earlier possible. So, would this job profile help me get to that stage in a few years from now?
I also have an offer in sell-side equity research at one of the well-known brokerage houses in India. This is a proper equity research role, and requires in-depth analysis of companies (unlike the role that I mentioned above). I would be happy to take this up if the above mentioned role doesn't lead me to trading.
Please advice.
