salary increases if they're good. their title might change to "vp" or "md" but in reality you're still a trader, at most a desk head. prop trading is all about merit - get the whole organizational chart/corporate ladder idea out of your head when you're discussing S&T

so how much do they make?

thanks/

You have almost 400 posts and you still expect to get a realistic range for prop traders income?

How about this: Some don't even get enough to pay for an MTA card after getting fired. Others could buy their own train.

Happy?

At a BB (at least mine) the target payout is 10%, so it all depends on how much you make for the bank.

i worked at a small prop / hf for a couple years.

salary = jackshit bonus = 25% of profits after fees

This was a pretty generous structure --- but I was not trading a huge pool of capital.

As was eluded to earlier, prop trading is a results based biz. Salary should be the least of your concerns because if you are not contributing you will be canned.

as for overall pay --- its going to range from literally nothing to hundreds of millions. some of the goldman prop guys have private islands.
