Student Career Advice

I am currently a rising senior at a non-target small private school in the Northeast and am having trouble even getting a first round interview. I am involved on campus as a portfolio manager for the investment club and CFA investment research challenge team leader. I have over three years of experience as an accounting intern as well. I am pursuing a bachelors in finance. Any advice of how to get even a first round interview? Thanks in advance.

it’s pretty implied that’s why you’re calling, so thankfully you don’t have to really explicitly say it.

method that worked the best for me was if i felt a call was going well, i’d usually throw in a “is there anyone else you think i should talk to”. shows that you’re genuinely interested in learning about XYZ, and usually the person/people they pass you onto will have some pull (unless it’s a super large team)

basically just try and network your way up the ranks. don’t be afraid to let people know that you’ve applied too.

I have done that, it's just the issue of them not responding. I did just go to the Quinnipiac Game Forum (which was a tremendous experience) that I was able to meet a few a VPs and directors that I have asked to meet with.

don't know if this is common practice, but i'd usually include the name of the person who gave me their contact info in the subject line/ explain in the email they recommended that i reach out.always felt like including the name of the coworker in the subject line got me more responses, maybe just a fluke though. also definitely don't come out and ask for internship… at most places the most they can do is get you a first round. at that point it's up to you.

pretty generic emails…
