Growth Equity | 5 hour Tech-enabled / Software Case
Was wondering if anyone has any advice on completing a 5 hour case for a GE firm that focuses on software and tech-enabled services businesses that does a combination of growth buyouts and minority investments. From what I've gathered, I'll be been given a case of building out a financial model that includes a liquidation preference and potentially sensitivity tables based on growth metrics and some pre-given assumptions. What's a "checklist" of things that I should definitely hit ? Are there templates / outlines that I can quickly use for a memo?
From the memos I've quickly flipped through online, the structure seems to be something along the lines of 1) Overview of business 2) Investment recommendation 3) Market Overview 4) Financial analysis 5) KPIs / Unit Economics 6) Risks / Outstanding Issues.
Also what would the criteria for a good model be if I'm not given a pre-existing template? Would the firm focus on revenue assumptions / projecting out a detailed revenue build? What does a good revenue build look like and how would this differ for a marketplace vs a software company? Also are there any resources / examples of something like this (a presentation with a clear investment recommendation and anticipation of qualitative risks? Know BVP publishes memos but the risks section seems to be sparse).
Would appreciate any help here, thanks a ton!
