SEC Votes to Lift 80-Year-Old Ban on Hedge-Fund Advertising

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-09/sec-set-to-lift-80-year-old-ba…

Thoughts on how this will affect the industry? What do you think really compelled the SEC to make this move, from their perspective?

I think this is a good idea, not only for HF's but for the average investor. Over the long run private investment advertising will create more exposure and notoriety for HF's, but the public will be forced to do a little research in order to better understand how alternative investment vehicles work.

Side note:

IMO, I think that independent FoHF's will greatly benefit form this ruling since they allow the average investor access to funds that are otherwise inaccessible; therefore these firms could tailor specific ad campaigns towards these types of investor and potentially form large pools seed capital.
