You can ask for a raise, but do realize that A) markets just got tougher post-CPI B) Top 10 investment bank doesn’t even make sense. It is either JPM, GS, MS, BAML, or even Citi, and that are the bulge brackets. Really cannot compare these to say Jefferies or Nomura or Barclays. C) You said it yourself - you were just decent. Not wonderful, not stellar - so why, when markets just got tougher, should one give you a raise?

EDIT: And it is your first year…how do you even you’re good enough at what you do in order to justify a raise? Have any clients raved about you? Have you created a new product (not a report - an actual product) that tons of people enjoy? I mean, it is your first year, a rookie - learn the lay of the land, ply your trade, improve, and you will gain recognition.
