Thailand travel tips

have any of you fellow monkey travel advises for Thai's islands?

I wanted to go on March and struggling to decide which island to visit after Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Choice is between Koh Lanta , Koh Lipe and Koh Samui

Whilst the latter seems to be the most interesting one (we are two guys flying from London), others have better connections and are cheaper to reach, and probably less crowded
It seems also that Lanta has better connections with Phi Phi for excursion and given is smaller has more attractions..

Any recommendation?

cheers

What are you looking to do? How much time do you have?

Koh Samui is definitely the most developed and it shows. Scenery is pretty good and it is fun to rip a scooter around the island. A lot of resorts though and not as backpacker/young single guy friendly.

Koh Lanta is pretty laid back as well. When I was there I didn't party or anything like that. Spent the time checking out a national park, riding around the island and exploring shops, hanging out at the beach, etc. No one at the hostel I stayed at, which is known as a party chain, went out at all. But there was a lot of smoking pot on the beach watching the sunset.

I can't comment on Koh Lipe as I never went.

If you're looking to party then I would recommend Koh Phangan (even without the full moon party this place was a blast. Beautiful too), Koh Tao (my favorite spot in the islands), or Krabi. If you're looking to take it easy I would say Koh Lanta, Samui, or Tao as well (hence why it is my favorite, it is great for both).

I didn't personally enjoy Koh Phi Phi as it was just totally overrun with tourists and development. There is a McDonald's on the island if that tells you anything and the party on the beach gets old after a bit.

Scuba diving off Ko Phi Phi was a highlight of my trip. Hard to do Thailand "wrong," the sights, people, food are all great.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
