Thoughts on SMU Spindletop
Saw mention of the SMU Spindletop program on the SMU v.s. TCU post. Thinking about attending SMU and want to do energy IB. Can anyone shed light on the program? Also, how does it compare to the alts program?

A bit smaller than Alts and has killer placement in Houston. Anyone at SMU who is interested in Energy IB should try to get into Spindletop.
The alts program is definitely more generalist based whereas the Spindletop program is all energy focused. Definitely try to do both, but if you can only choose one and you want to do Energy IB, I would pick Spindletop.
Spindletop is a pipeline to Houston as far as I am concerned. Definitely do it if you are interested in Energy IB. As far as the program goes, I would look into their website, but some key takeaways I had was their board who are pretty much all heavy hitters in the energy space. Haven’t seen another school investment fund out there that has this element. I wouldn’t really compare the alts program to the Spindletop program because one is just a class where they let pretty much any kid with a 3.7+ in and the other is an investment fund that is highly selective.
